Fibromyalgia

I am posting this question on behalf of my father... I know it would be better if he asked, but he is at a stage where he's sick of 'miracle cures' that don't heal him... but I'm still looking!

Dad is 54 and diagnosed with fibromyalgia. His ill health began I believe about 8 years ago, close to the time that he and my mom separated.

He has pain all over his body as well as stiffness... sensitive gums, sore feet, the tender points associated with fm. Pain is worst in the morning and sometimes he cannot get out of bed for a couple of hours longer than he would normally be.

He has back pain and throws his back out easily - had a fall at work about 20 years ago and hurt his back then. Another significant injury was a severe staff infection of the knee about 15 years ago.

He has insomnia - wakes up easily and sometimes cannot get back to sleep. He has fatigue and extreme drowsiness and frequently falls asleep in the daytime, his worst time for this being about 5pm.

He has trouble with constipation frequently.

He is very easily chilled, and he experiences coldness (especially damp colds) as bodily pain. Consequently he often feels better in a warm, dry environment.

He struggles with depression, both related to his physical ailments and also I believe independently of them.

His diet is fairly good, centering mostly around lean meats, veggies, fruits, nuts, and reasonable amounts of carbs - almost no fast food and little junk food. He drinks about 1-2 strong cups of coffee a day, about 5 alcoholic drinks a week (light beer). He sometimes has very strong sugar cravings during the day and will 'need' a Coke or a bit of candy rather suddenly, but that is not a daily occurence.

He does not formally exercise but has a physically active blue collar job. He is about 69 inches tall and about 130 lbs. His body type is generally lean and not overtly muscular. Fair skinned, with freckled skin that tends toward being dry.

He takes a regular routine of prescription opioid pain relievers every day. He used to take about 5 vitamin/dietary supplements per day but recently grew frustrated with that and threw them all out.

To treat his symptoms, he has tried: massage (deep tissue, accupressure, etc), homeopathic consultation, supplements and vitamins of many sorts, home massage devices, chiropractics, diets, faith healers, and traditional medicine. Currently he is resigned to taking opiods though these make him tired and sometimes depressed... they bring him the closest to pain-free he can be.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Sorry, I should also add that he also has been diagnosed with hemochromatosis and undergoes a regular phlebotomy every few months I think.

I apologize for the triple post, but I want to be thorough... and realized I have not described my dad's personality.

He is the type of person who seems to prefer some chaos in his life - he likes to be surrounded by noisy family and young kids - but this also can be a stressor for him. He works hard to the point of overworking. If he is not doing something... he'll find something to do! He always has projects going on. He is very forgetful and constantly looking for misplaced items.

He is passionate in his beliefs and very religious. He can be judgemental and overly forceful in his point of view. He is quick to latch on to new/odd theories but also quick to drop them and move on to the next thing.

He is also fun-loving, and seeks out joy and love, especially familial love and bonding. He can seem paradoxically high strung and also laid-back and at ease simultaneously (thriving on chaos as I mentioned). Often he will be laughing and happy while his young children are screaming for attention. He enjoys the simple things in life but prefers them to be at a volume of 11!

Is it possible to describe whether the pain is there in the muscles or in Bones?

You have some where mentioned that your father is going for 'phlebotomy'

Can you tell exactly for what and what is the result.

Is there any Blood report then give details?

I think he feels pain in the muscles and soft tissues of the body... this would include things like his gums, the balls of his feet, the pads of his hands, as well as muscular pain in the legs, back, and shoulders/arms. In some cases pain would be aggravated by harsher touches - for eg, the sensation of brushing his teeth. However, massages and things like a warm foot bath do help.

He goes for phlebotomies because of the hemochromatosis, ie, iron builds up too quickly and too high in his blood. I'm afraid I don't know the specifics of his bloodwork other than the iron building up too much.

While others look for the similimum, you can start giving him mag.phos 6X (tissue salt),4 tablets dissolved in luke warm water, as a dose.

You can give upto 4 doses per day, equally spaced. Try for about a week, and report.
