Sudden Hearing Loss After blood Donation
Finally I found a place were I think I can find some answer. This is my story. I donated blood back in February this year. After donationg blood I got Dizzy. Passed out for about half a minute. Only thing I know was when I got up somebody asked me how many fingers do I see. I rested for a few minutes only thing I noticed was 'Pressure in my right ear'. I camplained about that the phlebotomist said I might have Sinus. I left next day when I woke up I noticed I cannot hear well in my right ear. At about 10 AM all my hearing was gone (RT Ear only). I rushed to an ENT he gave me Steroids. It is now more than three months I still have hearing loss. I have to wear a hearing Aid. I will like know if someone else has the same experiance

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I donated blood Dec 27 2014. Didn't feel anything out of the ordinary as I have donated at least a dozen times before. When I woke middle of night my right ear no longer could hear. My left ear went long ago. I assume gradually cause I didn't notice until my right ear stopped working. I also went to a doc immediately and he prescribed what he said was maximum dose of steroids. I may have gained a slight bit of hearing back but that was all. Now I have to wear hearing aids in both ears and that's not enough. Going through the process to get a cochlear implant in left ear now, as it works better than the right. Please tell me you found some answers. Dustin

It has been four years now. I have learnt to live with constant ringing in my right ear I got me some of my hearing back with time. None of the treatments worked for me. I still have ringing in my ear. Only thing I found out is some people loose hearing after blood loss. My brother lost hearing temporarily after accident. He is fine now. I think it might be in my genes. I just advice my family not to donate blood

Sorry to read your hearing hasn't come back. I wish it would for us both. Well guess my MRI went well cause doc called about cochlear surgery possible April 14th. Worried about titanium in my skull but have to try it. And I advise not to donate now also yet feel bad for the possibility that I may need blood. Good luck
