Chronic tinnitus! Please help
I would really like to help my brother who has been suffering from Chronic tinnitus for the past few years. He is extremely depressed and talks of ending his life sometimes. If anybody with some experience with this would care to enter a dialogue with me I can supply a lot of information about him. He has had the usual ear tests and according to him the doctors say there is some auditory nerve damage. He has it all the time but there are certain triggers which make it worse. He keeps being told there is no cure for it, you have to live with it etc and this I think is adding very intensely to to his depression.whitebird on 2005-05-10
This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I don't know from a homeopathic perspective, but it is worth you running some internet searches on Vitamin B12 which , taken in larger than normal doses, has really helped chronic tinnitus sufferers. Check out this article http://www.whatreallyworks.co.uk/start/qanda.asp?article_ID=...
It is also worth looking into the herbal supplement
5-HTP to ease the depression.Taken in conjunction with B vitamins, I've taken this myself for a short period and was impressed with the results.
From the sounds of things, your bro is caught up in a viscious cycle where the stress of the tinnitus is causing more stress which is exascerbating the problem. I would recommend him trying anything that makes him feel calmer: Cranio-sacral therapy might be the way forward therapy-wise. Again, run some searches and see what you think.
I wish you both well.
