PLEASE HELP. Constant, Debilitating Urinary Pain & Cystic Ovaries

Hello,

I have been suffering from recurrent UTI's for the past two or three years. I usually would take some antibiotics (Ciproflaxin) and they would go away, but recently (over the past 2-3 months) I have been enduring increasingly unendurable pain, spasms, and tingling in my pelvic region and bladder.

I can't wear anything that even remotely presses on my lower abdomen because it is in so much pain. I was hospitalized twice for the pain and the doctors couldn't find anything wrong, saying it was 'pelvic pain' or 'pelvic inflammatory disease' (which my doctor disagreed with). I took 750 mg of levofloxacin/levaquin each day for one week because they misdiagnosed me as having pelvic inflammatory disease.

I visited my OB-GYN and he performed a sonogram on me. My right ovary has developed cysts (one is leaking - I have heard this can cause UTI symptoms as well) and he believes this is the cause of the pain. I was put on bed rest and had to leave work for one week to recover. Nothing really changed. I started to feel somewhat better after a few days of bed rest, but after drinking alcohol and eating junk foods, the pain returned full force, if not worse.

My period has just come yesterday (it was one week late) and my doctor insisted that I start birth control to suppress the development of the cysts. I have been taking Quantum Health's Kidney-Bladder tincture (a blend of uva ursi, juniper, cornsilk, etc.) in water, apple cider vinegar, Dr. Ohira's probiotics, Cystex and Advil alternated with naproxen for pain relief (I was using arnica but the pain is so constant that it was expensive and inconvenient to keep repurchasing a $6.99 tube every few days).

I have started eating an anti-inflammatory diet and trying to increase how much water I drink despite how painful it is to fill my bladder. Vegetables, salad greens, kale, asparagus, apple cider vinegar, lemon as dressing, miso, raw garlic, navy beans, avocado, etc.

I would like to add that I believe this was exacerbated from when I started eating meat a few months ago, after a period of vegetarianism/veganism for 10 years. I was a vegetarian from the age of 12/13 to now (23) and decided to start eating meat. After this, I noticed the UTI flare-ups and constant lower abdominal pain started. Also, I was drinking socially quite a bit, which I never did before - I think this contributed to the growing pain.

I am 5'5', 135 lbs. I have dark hair and hazel eyes. I have acne all along my jawline and cheeks. My menstrual periods are pretty consistent but come late after using antibiotics. I had an eating disorder in my teens where I lost my period for 2 years. I have dark blood with some clotting, lasting between 5-7 days. I have difficulty sleeping because of the pain and have always had issues with insomnia. I notice the pain is worse after sex - my doctor says it is 'post coital urgency', but this has been going on for months. The pain and irritation is constant, and it gets worse as the day goes on - generally it is most uncomfortable at night.

As far as strange ticks go, I have a tendency to scratch my scalp constantly, I don't know if this is out of nervousness or habit.

As far as foods go, I love spicy and rich foods (which probably irritated this condition, haha). Chinese food is one of my favorites - I love hot sauce and spicy, salty sauces, savory snacks like chips with hummus and so forth. I also like fruit, like strawberries and cherries. I enjoy yogurt, ice cream and kefir but try not to eat it often. I also have a strong craving for foods like bread, cereals and pizza but avoid them because they're known to irritate conditions like mine.

My thirst is pretty low because I can't drink much without being in severe pain. My family is worried sick about me and I have to say I'm pretty worried myself. I may have to take an extended leave from my job because I am disabled from the amount of pain that I'm in.

I am determined to get stronger and overcome this - it seems there is nothing to live for if I can't function from the amount of pain I'm in on a daily basis. I'm scared of losing my job and not being able to complete school.

CURRENTLY, I am taking causticum 30c 3x a day for urinary incontinence - not sure if I should continue with this. I have used homeopathy in the past and have taken remedies like Sepia, Kali-Carb, Vernix, Cannabis, etc. for my depression and anxiety as a teen. I also take a prescription anti-depressant, as well and my mood is pretty good nowadays despite the crisis I've been going through. Please let me know if there is anything else you need to know.

In addition to the above would request in details about the symptoms as under.
SENSATIONS
Excessive perspiration from the face and head.
Constant feeling of fever or heat throughout the body.
Burning, radiating, stabbing pain, tingling, spasming in bladder and lower abdomen.
Legs have a tendency to go numb or feel weak and light from the amount of pain in pelvic region.
Sensation of fullness, like rocks in the stomach, with aching all the way to the back of the spine.
Period cramps that are throbbing, pulsating and twisting like knives.
Pains become worse if anxious, fearful or ruminating.

BETTER OR WORSE

- State at what time your troubles or any single symptoms, is made better or worse.

I notice my symptoms are far worse in the evening (around 8-11 PM).

- State what season of the year, what time in the month, whether the phases of the moon cause either, what part of the week, what hour of the day or night the trouble or single symptom comes on or is made better or worse.

Usually my UTI symptoms are worse in the summer - I first started getting UTI's in the summer I turned 17 and noticed I always acquired them in hotter months more easily.

- Is there any position which you may assume that causes a particular trouble or any single symptom to be better or worse? It may be when you first lie down; or after lying down awhile or rising after sitting or on sitting after standing, walking; walking much; walking in the house or in the open air, or in the cold air ; or at night; running, running rapidly or slowly; when stooping over, after
stopping, or on rising from stooping; leaning the head backwards, forwards; to one side or leaning the head on the table or the hand; lying with head high or low; lying in some particular position ; crawling on the hand + knees or some other or many possible positions.

Symptoms are exacerbated by sitting for prolonged periods of time - they are at their worst when I have to sit on the bus or train for extended amounts of time, especially in the evening. Symptoms are relieved somewhat by lying down and sometimes with movement, like walking.

- Does anything cause the trouble or a single symptom to be better or worse ? It may be reading ,writing , music ascending or descending the stirs or a hill, biting the teeth together ,blowing the nose , before or after one of the meals, breathing, breathing deeply, when chewing food, when eating or drinking, closing or opening the eyes , looking up, down or sideways, from heat, cold, from warm or cold air heat of stove or sun, dry or moist air going into the air or going into the warm, sunlight or lamplight from excitement, fight, grief, grief, sorrow fasting, some kind of food or drink
motion or quiet, when nose is discharging or is dry, from gratification of passions , scratching, rubbing, beginning of sleep, during a storm, thunder storm, snow storm, swallowing food, drinking of saliva, talking, singing, hearing other talk or sing, music touch, turning over in bed, covering up or uncovering, wet dry, windy or cloudy weather.
(Note 3:- The above is given to impress on the mind the great importance of noticing what may seem to be little things.)

Meditation, reading and deep breathing seem to help clear the symptoms somewhat. I find myself biting my tongue when the pain is overwhelming. A breeze sometimes helps because it is overwhelmingly hot and I always feel like I have a fever. A heating pad on the pelvic region helps. It is worse after eating (the fullness hurts), after drinking large amounts of fluids, when bending over or down, when sitting and it seems to get worse instantly when I am upset or anxious. Loud noises bother me, especially the sound of automatic hand dryers, horns, yelling or angry voices, and construction noises. I am easily affected by others' moods or dispositions.

At what age did you have your first menses? 12/13.
- Had you any trouble before or during the first period? The first period I recall being very painful, crampy and heavy.
- Have you, at any time, had you menses stopped or decreased by getting feet wet, from a general wetting, from cold, fright weakness, sickness or any other cause? Anorexia/bulimia stopped my periods for 1.5 years at the age of 15/16 (2005-2006).
- Have menses been irregular or painful at /since a particular time? They were less painful when I was a vegan and rarely consumed alcohol. Since eating heavier foods, smoking/drinking, I've noticed they have become heavier and more painful. I sometimes skip or delay the onset of periods from antibiotic use or stresss.
- Are your menses too frequent, too seldom, delayed, regular, early, and late? If so how often do they come? Generally, they are on time, unless I take high doses of antibiotics or experience stressful events like moving.
- Do you have menses during the nursing of your child? N/A.
- Do you have the whites or nose bleed during menses? No.
- How long do menses last? 5-7 days.
- Do excitement of exertion bring menses on? No.
- When does the flow increase, decrease or cease? Afternoon, day only, evening, lying down, morning, motion, at night only, walking? Mention only things that affect the flow? Flow increases at night and when resting.
- Character of the flow, describe the flow very carefully acrid, black, bright red, brown, changeable, clotted, lumpy, conspicuous, dark excoriating ( making parts sore) , fetid or foul ,greenish , gushing hot ( unduly so),membranous (shreds), milky, mucus: Both bright and deep red - generally very dark, with small clots. Rather heavy. No discernable scent.
- What is the odour? There isn't much odor but it usually smells faintly metallic - blood smell.
- Is it pale, profuse, protracted (lasts two long) scanty, stingy, tenacious, thick, too thin, viscid, watery, dark clots to bright blood, etc. Give exact appearance and odour of the flow? Thick, heavy, some dark clots, bright red blood. Becomes light brown and mucousy towards last few days of period.

Before the menses
- Various troubles of the abdomen. Loss of a very great appetite. Troubles of the back. Difficulty in breathing. Troubles of the chest. Increased, large appetite prior to period. Irritability, anxiety, depression. Lower back pain. Some chest tightness. Heaviness, fullness in upper abdomen. Hot feeling. Sore breasts, abdominal bloating and distention. Ovarian cysts.

During Menses; - This refer to the time from the starting to the ending of the flow.

Appetite still increased for first few days, cramping, loose stools, bloating, abdominal distention/swelling, sensation of heat, soreness, back pain.

After The Menses: - Many of the troubles referred to above may occur after the menses. Give all the complaints carefully as above attach sheet.
Leucorrhoea (the whites ) :- Aluminous (like white of an egg ), biting, black bloody , brown, burning, clear, cold, cream like, dark, foetid or foul, like jelly, greenish, in gushes, honey colour, lumpy, mild or bland , milky, mucous, opaque, profuse purulent (matters) ropy, scalding, scanty, smarting, causing soreness, starchy, sticky, stiffening the lines, suddenly coming & going, tenacious, thick, thin, thready, transparent, watery, white, yellow
