Post shingles neuralgia
Hoping to help a friend who is in agony. The rash is gone.* Well defined area - sharply limited to left side of trunk, above waist and below upper part of chest.
* Sensation of frequent electric shocks. Like a fizzy burn, especially where breast or arm rubs against skin. Some itching.
* Time of day or night is not a factor.
* Better for ice cold applications, lying still, being clean and dry (although showering is unpleasant)
* Worse for touch, breeze, sweat, motion.
* Prefer to be alone, naked, lying on right side.
Mezereum keeps coming up for me, with Ranunculus bulbosus a close second.
Any thoughts about remedy or dosage? (6C? 30C? and how frequently in a wet dose?) Do you need any more information?
Thank you so much!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
For any neuralgia first try hypericum 200, 2 pills a day for 3 days

For shingles accompanied with neuralgia, Variolinum is the best remedy.Take Variolinum 200 two doses every day for three days. Then report.

Thanks for the feedback. The variolinum I will need to order. She is ultra sensitive to just about everything. Would it be ok to start her on 30C?

Thank you, Rajiv. Here is the update.
The original episode of Shingles was last summer. Since then she has been in a great deal of pain and has tried a number of medicines which, if they work, leave her feeling very doped up. That makes it difficult to know if there has really been a change, but for the moment easing up on her medicines is not a bearable option for her.
She was on Variolinum 30C for four days at 2 or 3 doses per day. She stopped because much of the original rash reappeared for 24 hours. (The area of the rash overlapped the original area - in other words, it extended into an area which did not previously have a Shingles rash.) Although she seemed to sleep better at first, there was no other apparent improvement, including any change in the pain.
I do have Variolinum 200C available now to offer her, but barring a better explanation for the rash this past weekend, it appears it may have been an aggravation and she would not be willing to take it again in such a stronger potency. We discussed the possible reasons it might have occurred, and the Variolinum is the only one that makes any sense.
Is reoccurrence of a rash ever seen as part of the homeopathic cure. In other words, how likely is it that the rash was an ggravation?
Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

It seems that she kept on taking some other medicine along with the Variolinum and hence the inability of the remedy to clear or reduce the neuralgia. You can yourself observe that other medications in the past to take care of the neuralgia leave her with a "doped" feeling. The logic of using Variolinum is that shingles is caused by the same virus which causes Chicken pox and Variolinum which is a nosode prepared from that virus almost always cures Shingles along with the neuralgia.Choice is yours, to take only homeopathic remedies or other medication. In case of taking other medication, i don't think Variolinum will work.

Thank you, rajiv. The pain is too much for her to bear on her own. My thought was that it wouldn't hurt (much) to see if the right remedy might cut through the other medicines. From something else I found I am somewhat encouraged that the recent rash might be a good sign, but that she would now have to give it time to see what, if anything, develops. If there is improvement I will let you know.

Just reading through this as I am looking for information on the treatment of neuralgia and looked up the recommended remedy variolinum and this is listed as a remedy for small pox but not chicken pox or related.
Hope helpful!

Varicella is the nosode of chickenpox, and therefore shingles, not variolinum, and can be applied where there are some lingering effects of either. Rhus-Tox and Hypericum are two other remedies which may be of help in this situation.

Dear Organon
My dad, 80y/o is suffering from postherpetic neuralgia 1month until now. Face, lt, forehead & eye. He is under medicine like painkillers but it does not work weel. It aggrevates when he lies down, especially at night.
Ive searched forums, mostly recommended Variolinum 200. But im curious if it really works since Herpes zoster is coming from varicella-zoster virus(chicken pox) but Variolinum is the nosode of variola virus, Smallpox. Ive visited website www.helios.co.uk and found out there is also nosode of varicella. So i am wondering which one do i need to choose?
Is Small pox similar to chicken pox?
Thanks for your kind answer in advance.
