Obese dog
I have a spayed 7 year old dog that is very overweight even though she eats raw food and does not overeat. In her past she was a puppy mill rescue and has been through a lot of grief and abandonment. She was thin until my father-in-law loaded her up with junk food and treats.
She is:
Worse from the sun
Worse from heat in any form
Better from massage
Better from cold air and weather.
Will vomit if she become excessively hot. Cannot handle the summer, warm rooms, warm cars, blankets, etc.
Pushy, bossy, alpha female, likes to be number one. Worse if you are upset with her for being disobedient. Cannot handle anyone being upset and will manipulate to ease her way back into good standing.
She is not fat with fat rolls. She is gassy, bloated, wide and most of the weight is in the belly. Actually she is built like a pot-bellied pig.
She tends to get skin irritations that she licks and they scab over. Especially on her knees and inner thighs. Sometimes on top of her head. Nose is dry even though she has pretty good thirst.
If you exercise her or walk her she tires easily and gets out of breath easily. Not from lack of exercise but from becoming overheated.
Just wanted to know what you all thought. Thanks.

Bouvier.
The belly is not hard and swollen like a dog who has worms although you bring up a good point.

My dog (a German Shepherd) was overweight for quite a while.
What kind of "raw food" do you feed your dog?
