Loss sense of taste after tonsillectomy
Hello, Had a tonsillectomy on April 1 along with minor inferior turbinate reduction. Was able to taste to some degree after surgery but starting last several days, my ability to taste anything has become less and less. It seems like I can still taste a little bit of sour on the left side of my tongue but no where else. I can still smell ... more so out of my right nostril than left (that is still crusty inside per doctor). I am very concerned. I have anxiety to begin with, so of course, having anxiety and feeling depressed that I will lose my sense of taste forever. I have read that in tonsillectomies, they clamp on the tongue to pull it out of the way. Wonder about damage. There is a surgical risk of damaging the glossopharyngeal nerve...but other than loss of taste, I don't have any tongue pain. Any advice appreciated. Thank youJinko
