Help with Mental Disorder

Hi,

I am writing this because I don't know what else to do. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when I was in high school (I am now 28). I have been taking a lot of medications ever since then. Currently I am on seroquel (800mg), depakote (500mg) and mirtazapine (15mg).

Ever since I started taking these medications, my head has felt really numb. Everything seems slower. Lately, things have gotten worse. I can't focus, I'm irritable, can't sleep, my head hurts, i have a lot of hallucinations at night, I'm suicidal, and emotional. I'm really, really afraid.

I was wondering if homeopathy would be able to help me. Like I said, I don't know what else to do, really. I feel horrible, and the only thing my psychiatrist seems to do is increase the medications. I know these medications are bad for me, but I don't know what else to take or do. They control me and keep me from getting crazy ideas, but I feel so horrible taking them.

If someone could please help me I would really appreciate it. I just want to know if there is an alternative to the medications I am currently taking, or if I have to take them for the rest of my life.

Also, would it be better if I saw someone face to face? I live in california... is it better to find a homeopath that works here?

Thank you.

Dear JJ,

Face to face with an experienced homeopath is always the best as all tools can be used to take the case.

And you want someone who has good experience with what you are dealing with.

Treatment goes hand in hand with safe gradual withdrawal from the meds you are taking and can be a delicate balance.

I am in California and can look up options for you on choosing a person
To work with. Some of them will work via Skype , let me know your general area and I will get back to you with names.

simone717 8 years ago
Please google dr. Tara Peyman dot com. She is a naturopathic dr but specializes in bi polar using homeopathy.

You can go online ands schedule your video appt with her as she does the online once a week. The bi polar and depressive disorders are what she is focused on as her life's work.

I would consult with her first, you need an expert and she is one.

simone717 8 years ago
I have others in California who could help, she is in Arizona , but the fact she specializes in this disorder is a rare thing to find.

simone717 8 years ago
Hi,

Thank you both for your replies.

I did google Dr. Peyman and she does seem like someone that could help me. However, I don't think that I would be able to afford her services. The first visit alone is $500 dollars. I get about $800 from social security because I am considered disabled, and I don't think I would have enough for food/rent if I paid that much. I could maybe do $300 a month, on a credit card so that I can pay it back later.

Regarding your other questions, I live in LA county, near LA. I am able to use skype so that is definitely an option.

I would really, really appreciate a list of names. If all of them charge this much, then perhaps I can try saving some money first.

Regarding your questions antivirus, I'm afraid that this will get too complicated, and that I will take up too much of your time. I will answer them, however, and maybe you can let me know what you think. I am in the process of doing the facial and tongue diagnosis.

Again, thank you both for your responses.

Why not contact dr peyman and tell her your money situation and see if you can work out a pay plan that is comfortable for you.

Let her know she was referred. If you do well , I get many private requests for good doctors and she would be on my list . And the first appt is around 90 minutes at least. Follow ups often included or $75 or so after one follow up.

The range in USA is now $350 to $500.

Hi Jjlb

I believe I can help you somewhat in your diagnosis that has the potential to help you .Reply if you are interested.

Thin, fearful, anxious, tall, dry, constipation, seeking warmth, unpredictable, cold to touch......

Does any of above describe you?

Teupne 8 years ago
You must check your prakriti online as advised by antivirus.

You are a vata(vayu) individual and your bipolar disorder is a result of deranged (excess) vayu.

Teupne 8 years ago
Go with 0antivirus0 for your best

DrManojVEDI 8 years ago
The first thing dr peyman checks is the bi polar diagnosis. Often the previous diagnosis is wrong and drugs given for that diagnosis make things worse.

The md/homeopath has a you tube where one case was really shock and grief and ignatia matched the physicals. one dose 30c, huge difference.Well after another 30c and one 200c.

I do not see how you can compare
Non homeopaths, to an md homeopath who only specializes in
Bi polar .

The poster also has to safely taper her meds and this requires a professional to navigate the transition.

To antivirus:

Here are my answers to your survey:

Age,sex,weight,country,occupation.

Age: 29
Sex: male
Weight:140 pounds
Country: USA
Occupation: student

2. Main complaints and other
associated troubles.
a)Where is the trouble; The
exact locality of the
complaint like hands,legs
etc; duration of trouble.
ANS.

In my mind, I suppose. I get a lot of headaches, and I'm usually very emotional, sometimes manic and sometimes depressed. I also hallucinate a lot, especially at night. I feel the pain sometimes in my throat, also in my stomach and chest.

b)What exactly do you feel,
Sensation as pain, how pain
feels or burn etc.
ANS.

I feel like nothing will ever work out for me. A lot of hopelessness. I also get emotional when watching movies, like I can identify with their pain. My body feels like it is not connected to the rest of me.

c)What are the factors that
causes this trouble according
to you.

The cold makes me depressed sometimes. I also become unable to focus or complete my schoolwork. This worsens things. It gets really bad at nightime, which is when I hallucinate a lot. Sometimes I hear voices telling me that I'm worthless and sometimes they try to make me do bad things, like burn things down.

d)Condition under which the
complaint is reduced or you
feel better like,cold or hot
application,cold or hot
weather,position as
standing,walking,rest etc.

In the spring when it is warm, I think that I usually feel better. I like warmth. I like taking warm showers, warm application is better.I usually feel like lying down all the time, although I'm not sure if I prefer it.

e)Condition under which the
complaint is increased
like,cold or hot
application,cold or hot
weather,position as
standing,walking,rest etc.

The cold makes me depressed, usually. I feel lonely and worthless. I pace around when I am manic.

f)Any other complaint any
where in the body.

I used to have hypothyroid, but it went away and I am not taking any medications for it. My hair loss is pretty bad, and I also have fungus on my toenails (it is not too bad, however, and I am applying medication to it).

g)Onset time of troubles in
detail, i.e which came first,
after that what problem and
so on.

I was very depressed in middle school, around age 12. I thought about suicide almost every day. Then when I was 16, I had a manic episode and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The voices in my head kept telling me to set things on fire and other weird things. I was also having visual hallucinations, and could see creatures and things like that following me, laughting, etc.

h)Treatment method
adopted and its result.

I have been taking antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and anti-depressants since I was 16. They do help, but I feel so stupid when I take them. Like they are blocking my mind. Everything I do now I feel slower, stupider. But I don't want to get manic again so I keep taking them, even though I still hallucinate once in a while and get depressed/manic, even though I'm taking them.

3. History of diseases in
family.

My uncle has schizophrenia. My sister has bipolar disorder. My mom has bipolar disorder. There is also a history of Parkinson's on my mom's side, alcoholism and diabetes on my dads.

4. Personal History.
a)About childhood.

My childhood was not too great. I had really strict parents that would hit me a lot. Sometimes, however, they would not have good reasons to hit me. Sometimes my mom was just feeling really, really badly, and found any excuse to hit me. I think she was manic. Then she would cry after hitting me. My dad usually only hit me when he was drinking. Because of that I don't really talk much. I am scared of people when I first meet them. I spent a lot of time reading and trying to escape.

b)Academic performance.

I was really good in school. I went to a UC school after high school, but I had to drop out because I was too manic. I then went to another university, but dropped out again, and finally, on my third try I got my Bachelor's. I still take classes. However, it has become really hard for me to focus, and a lot of times I feel so depressed that I cannot finish my work.

c)Any major incidents in life
and the effect of it on life.

No, not really anything major. The first time I was in the mental hospital was really bad. I didn't know who I was, at times, or what was happening.

d)How you are satisfied with
your sex life, friends, family
members, company etc.

I don't have many friends anymore. I have never dated anyone because I am too scared. I like some of my family, like my grandmother and some of my siblings.

5. Habits/Addiction.
a)Smoking, Alcohol,Sleeping
pills, Laxative etc.

I do not have any addiction or habits.

b)Masturbation and
frequency.

Maybe once every two days or so.

6. How is your Appetite and
Thirst.

My appetite is not that great. I have to keep reminding myself that I need to eat. I also do not drink enough water. Sometimes at night, I drink water and the hallucinations stop. Sometimes I am really thirsty, though. I feel full in my stomach, but I am still thirsty. This happens after I take my medications sometimes.

7. Likes and Dislikes.
a)Alcohol Bread Butter Bitter
Salt Sweet Sour Fats Milk Mud
Chalk Egg Spicy food Meat
Fish Fruits Fried Food
Warm food-drink Cold food-
drink Ice Ice cream
Chocolates Tea Coffee.

I like spicy food, fish, sour, warm food like soups, and tea.
I dislike alcohol. and bitter things.

b)Anything else about like
and dislike of any activity
with you or surrounding.

I don't like to go out in public because I feel sad and fearful. I try to listen to everything at once.

8. Bowel movements.
a)Nature of stool, frequency,
satisfactory or not.

I am often constipated. I have irregular movements, sometimes at night sometimes at morning, sometimes every day sometimes once every other day.

b)Any discomforts
associated with stool.

Constipation, also sometimes I am unable to empty out completely and will have another bowel movement in a few hours.

9. Urine.
a)Frequency, nature,
volume.

I urinate a lot of times, and a large volume. At night especially it is very frequent.

b)Any discomfort before,
during or after urination/
odour

A lot of times it doesn't empty out completely. It is very difficult for me to squeeze out all of the urine.

10. For men.
a)Any difference in
erection/want of erection/
weak erection/Ejaculation
early/late.

No not really. My erections are not usually weak, and my ejaculation is not early or late I think.

b)Any other trouble in sex.

No.

12. Sleep.
a)The quality of sleep, the
quietness or restlessness of
sleep,
position of sleep, times of
waking and reasons for
waking,
need for cover over various
parts of the body,
whether the window must
be open or closed etc.
common dreams, peculiar
sounds or gestures during
sleep, etc.

My sleep quality is usually good. However, it takes me a really long time to go to sleep, like four hours sometimes. I can usually only sleep when I am on my side, and I switch from right side to left side about three or four times a night. If I am face up or down I usually cannot fall asleep. I usually like the window open. I also have to face the door because I am afraid of hallucinations coming into my room. I also sleep with a night light because of this fear.

13. Sweat
a)How much, what parts,
staining, Odour.

Usually feet and underarms, especially when I am nervous. My pillow is usually very stained by sweat.

14. Weather
a)Tolerance to heat and
cold, dryness, humidity,
weather changes, sun,
foggy weather, wind drafts,
closed rooms, etc.

Humid weather is exhausting to me. Dryness is also bad though. Cold weather is depressing, like when it is foggy and no sun. I usually get sick when the weather changes, especially since I have a lot of allergies and a history of asthma. I am not very tolerant of the cold, especially with showers, maybe because I am really skinny.

15. Mental Status
a)The quality of the patient's
life in relationship to loved
ones, family, friends and
colleagues. Overall quality
of energy available to
function in daily life, and
under various circumstances.

I don't have a good relationship with other people. I do not have enough energy most days. I feel tired, even though I have hardly done anything. I also lose focus a lot, which leads to people thinking that I don't want to be around them or hear what they have to say.

b)Any mental/emotional
shocks occurring in the
patient's life-grief, major
financial losses separation
from loved ones, death,
identity crisis and other
stress in life.

I was in love once. It was completely one sided, though and "all in my head." However, I have never really been able to move on.

c)Memory,ability to
concentrate/comprehend.

Generally this has declined over the years. Every year I feel like it gets worse. I used to be better, especially when it was just me and one other person, but now, even in a conversation with one other person I feel like I am not understanding. I have to ask them to repeat the same thing because I am lost in my own thougths and have not heard what they have said.

d)Are you fearful of
anything eg: Animals,
people, being alone,
darkness, death, disease,
robbers, thunder, storm, high
places.

I am afraid of a lot of things: failure, loneliness, insects (although I also feel awe when I look at them), the dark. I am also a little afraid of high places, mostly because the voices in my head sometimes tell me I should jump.

e)Are you anxious about
anything: if yes, give details.

I'm anxious of being in a group, especially talking in front of a group. I don't like being in a crowd because I try to listen to everything at once and it is a disaster. I also don't like really loud noises like babies crying or ambulances.

f)Are you impatient.

Yes, I am very impatient. I expect people to understand me, even when I don't communicate well.

g)Are you doubtful or
suspicious.

Yes. I usually question people's motives a lot. I am doubtful of a lot of things also.

h)Are you hurt easily
(emotionally)how do you
react. Does it cause hatred/
revenge.

Yes, I am hurt easily. I react by getting depressed. If I get angry I keep it to myself, and I get sadder because I know its unhealthy to keep all that anger inside of me. However, I lack the confidence to be honest with my feelings and other people.

i)Does your pride get hurt
easily.

Yes. I used to be able to do a lot of things. Now, everything is really hard and people notice it and say things about it and it hurts me a lot, mainly because it is hard to explain to others that I am not well mentally. They just think that I am a loser or that I am lazy, but its more complicated, my mind just feels horrible all the time.

j)Are you depressed, if so,
reason/circumstances.

I don't know if there's a reason for my depression. I suppose it is because I used to be a good thinker and now I am not. I knew my life was going to be hard when I was young, but I never imagined it would be this hard.

k)Do you like to share your
problems.

I do not like sharing my problems. I do not talk about them to hardly anyone except people who are doctors. Sometimes I talk to family and friends about my problems, but usually I do not.

l)Effect of consolation.

I feel extremely uncomfortable when I am consoled. I do not know how to react. I am embarrassed and say things like "it wasn't that bad" or "I'm okay, really," My therapist used to do it to me a lot and I didn't like him feeling sorry for me.

m)Do you ever become
suicidal when? How.

I spent most of my days in high school wishing I was dead, or that I had never been born. Almost if not every day, I felt like this. The closest I ever came, though, was just cutting myself a little. I also used to burn myself on purpose when I was little. When I was about 8 or 9 I put a knife to my chest because my mom was hitting me a lot and I had no one to talk to. I am glad that I don't own a gun or a car because I would probably be dead if I had either one.

n)Memory- quality if poor,
for what ( eg. Names, places,
people, what you read).

My memory is usually really good. It has been better, but it is good. I can still remember things that happened many years ago, and very clearly.I also remember faces really well.

o)Do you weep easily, effect
of weeping, ie, does it make
you worse or better.

I weep very easily. I usually weep until I am feeling a little better, then I go and do something else. I have tried to stop myself from crying, but I find it's best to just cry first and then do something else.

p)Are you easily irritated.
What makes you angry, how
do you express it.

Yes I am easily irritated. When people ask me or say the same thing twice, for example. I also get angry when people see things in a way that is different from my own. I respect different viewpoints, but I also have strong beliefs about the way people should be.

q)Are you destructive.

Somewhat. I have punched things when I am really mad or hit my head against the wall a few times because of the feelings in my head and my inability to change thingss.

r)How good are you in
making decisions.

Not good. I always question whether it is the correct decision or not. It also takes me a really, really long time to decide some things, and even then I sometimes change my mind in the end. The whole process is very confusing to me.

s)Do you like company or
like to remain alone.

I like being on my own. When I am with others I always feel alone anyway, though , so its almost the same thing.

t)How seriously are you
affected by disorder and
uncleanness in your
surroundings.

Very unclean. I have dishes all over my room, and lack the energy to wash them. I also have other things in my room like old letters and papers. I stare at it sometimes as I lie in bed, wishing I had the energy to clean. When I get manic, I try to force myself to clean at least a little.

u)How does failure appear
to you?

Like an inevitability. Like I am just waiting for it to happen, knowing that it will happen, so nothing I do is important because in the end I will fail Like no matter what I do, I will always be sick and unstable.

v)Are there any matters that
you deeply dislike?

Social injustices.. Doctors and teachers/professors who are getting paid too little for what they studied, making less money than store managers sometimes. Businessmen owing more than 50% of the US nation's wealth and then blaming immigrants and the poor for the US recession. Also personal injustices, like when someone takes advantage of someone else, especially if it is a friend or family member.

w)What activities you
deeply like? How does it
affect your mood?

I like watching shows on TV and reading short stories (I do not have the attentian span to read novels anymore). I think they offer an escape during the day. I especially like to watch and read comedies, just to feel a little bit of happiness each day. However, when night comes all the sadness and fear returns.

x)Are you affectionate? How
does others sorrow affect
you?

Sometimes I feel sad for them. Other times I feel sad that I don't feel sad. When my grandmother died, everyone was crying, but I felt ok. She was suffering a lot in the end, and sometimes death is better.

y)Any present fears in your
life or future.

I want to get a job, and I am trying to but it seems too difficult at the moment. I don't have a set sleep schedule. Sometimes I am unable to sleep the whole night.I also have a lot of periods of overwhelming sadness. I think that if I was criticized for something at work I would take it too personally and end up in the mental hospital again. I am studying web design, though, so I can maybe set my own hours.

z)Any present life or future
life desires.

I have learned to not make plans. I just live day by day. It feels like I am barely living, like I am just surviving.

16.Describe your face and

Hi Teupne,

Yes, I am all of the things you described. The test also said that I was vayu.

I am not sure what this means, but hopefully I will learn more about it.

Thank you for your response.

Yes, I will send Dr Peyman an email with all the information you have told me to include. Hopefully I can find a way to pay for it because I feel like it would really help me. I will make sure to try to save as much money as I can meanwhile as well.

Thank you.

Dear jj ,

Let me know what the response is from the dr. If you want, click my name and see my email. You can write to me, I can perhaps figure out a way to make this happen faster.

simone717 8 years ago
Hi Jjlb

We are made up of five elements earth water fire air and ether.

Your prakriti test shows the relative proportion of these elements in you.

You being overwhelmingly vayu prakriti (air and space) shows
Abundance of air in you which is related with host of airy symptoms like gas, constipation, dryness. ......................in mind fear anxiety schizophrenia, paranoia, bipolar etc.

If you truly want to heal (by balancing excess vayu) you must understand your true vayu nature.

This word vayu alone has the power to transform your life in ways which you can't even imagine.I speak with conviction.

My sincere advise as I can relate with your suffering is
Understand deeply your vayu nature, what balances it (diet, herbs, lifestyle) what imbalances it.Consult a Gud ayurvedic practitioner.

This healing will take time but you will see complete transformation.

You are addicted to coffee and sugar.leave them.

Colon is your primary organ which seats vata as your colon heals so would you.

Hi,

I just wanted to check back in.

To simone:I wrote to Dr. Peyman and have made an appointment for a 15 minute consult. If she believes that she can help then I will undergo treatment with her. She told me that after the first meeting, the cost drops significantly (about $100 dollars a month). This was a huge relief for me. I can afford these prices. I mentioned everything that you told me to mention. I have hope that she will be able to help me. Once my treatment begins, I will try to give updates (since you seemed to want to know whether or not you should recommend her to other people). Thank you so much for finding this doctor and for helping me begin the process of seeing her.

To Teupne,

I have been looking at a website and trying to modify my diet accordingly. I will try to eat more soups, more milky food at breakfast, and warm liquids, etc. I will stop consuming caffeine and sugar. I have also ordered Svoboda's book, and will look into seeing an ayuvedic practitioner, especially if I don't see goood results with Dr. Peyman. It's good to know that I have treatment options... a few weeks ago I thought my only option were these horrible pharmaceutical products that have probably been doing more harm than good...

Thank you both so much.

Dear jj,

Would love to hear how your case goes on with dr peyman. Updating on here can help a lot of people worldwide and be informative to homeopaths and mental health practioners.

Thanks for writing!

Best,

Simone

"Sometimes at night I drink water and hallucinations stop"

Good luck Jjlb. I know it can be helped.I have come across two testimonials on Internet for successful healed bipolar disorder. Google forbes bipolar success. Main culprit coffee and sugar. I was not surprised as both coffee and sugar are poison for air(vayu) constitutions.
Second success story also related to healing by amino acid supplements eventually it also strongly correlated with diet.

AND yes when other elements (other than air and space) especially water and earth increase in your body you would see that you would be healed.

There are several ayurvedic herbs to balance vata along with diet .They will help you heal faster. Keep that option in mind.Triphala, basil, guggul, ashwagandha, vacha(mind herb) and several others...

My best wishes, also it would be nice to hear about your progress. .

Vayu is balanced by sour salty and sweet tastes(organic sugar will help provided you have good digestive fire).excessed by bitter( you hate it) pungent and astringent tastes.

Vayu constitutions most easily go out of balance but also most easily healed. (bcoz of lightness and fastness)

Three Basic steps of ayurvedic healing from first to last:

1.Detox your prakriti:For vayu triphla castor oil

2.Balance your prakriti:Reduce vayu through herbs and diet.

3.Rejuvenate the system:Use tonics like ashwagandha and shatavar.

Google different aspects of vata ayurveda in nepal.

Vayu is dry ,light, cold, rough, subtle, moving

Food with opposite qualities will balance: oily, heavy, smooth,.....
