dog, stage iv, internal bleeding, fluid in lungs
my 9 yr old mixed breed hound (normal weight 75 lbs, now at 65) was diagnosed with stage iv of the spleen- gone to the liver july 1st. her abdomen is distended from the enlargement of the organs and she has some fluid in her lungs. she was bleeding internally and showed signs of anemia. two vets have told me palliative care-- they hold no hope.i put her immediately on tcm yunnan baiyao to treat the bleeding, 3 caps 3 times daily for 2 days, then 2 caps 3 times daily for another 5 days, and now she is on 1 cap every 10 hours or so. there are warnings not to use it for too long because it can cause damage to the liver-- which is already damaged. my vet says this shouldn't be a consideration since she is dying, but i still of course hope she doesn't (yet). this remedy seems to help alot, it did stop the bleeding between the first vet visit and the second for the scan, 5 days. it seems to alleviate her abdominal discomfort. i would like to up the dose but need advice. maybe 2 caps 2 times daily? or 1 every 8 hours?
when i gave her the cap i noticed her mouth was full of slime so i gave her 2 tabs nat.mur6x, which regulated that, whenever i find her mouth slimy i give her 2, it is much less often than it was one week ago. i found at the same time that nat.sulph6x is indicated for her liver problems and started her on that 3tabs 3x daily- i found on this forum i can up that to 4 times daily to treat fluid in the lungs, which is our problem now. she won't drink water, but eats ice chips by the bowl.
i addressed the anemia with 1/2 droppers of baby vitamins with iron once daily, for a week only, and added chicken livers (4 or 5 daily) to her diet. (diet now is white meat chicken with red bell pepper, celery, shiitakes in its soup with ginger, cayenne, garlic- the same as she ate before but it was dark meat and had carrots, plus between meals a handful of chicken and brown rice kibbles, bones and lick-the-dish-- she is eating 4 times a day now, half portions, rather than 2 times as before, her appetite is ok- but nothing like it was) three days ago i suddenly remembered FerrumPhos6x tissue salts and have been giving her 2 tabs 3 times daily. her gums get pink again, but go white again. so maybe 4 times daily? and does this indicate more internal bleeding, so maybe i should up the yunnan baiyao dose?
i also started her on cannabis extracted into coconut oil about 10 days ago. it is not heavy on thc. my mother takes double what the dog does and feels nothing (she says), but it does affect the dog- it really laid her out at first. i started her on 3/5 ml every 8 hours and was able to increase to 1 ml after 1 week. advice to anyone using this remedy- do not overlap doses- wait the full 8 hours- especially the first week. give on an empty stomach or you won't be able to calculate when it hits and may get stuck out on a walk-- takes about 2 hours for me to see the effect on my dog. i plan to increase the dose little by little as recommended. part of the effect of the cannabis is cotton mouth-- thus the bowls of ice chips and her nose is dry, overly so. i am rubbing a couple of drops of the cannabis oil on it, alternating with pure shea butter. it is not as bad as it could be, but not as good as is comfortable for her. the cannabis is keeping her appetite up, too. buying us time, at least.
please, can anyone give me more concrete advice? the fluid in the lungs is what really bothers me, last night she didn't want to lay her head down because she couldn't breathe properly- 3 nat.sulph6x helped after 20 minutes or so-- i wonder if i could give them every 15 minutes like i would with myself for an acute condition? can you help me with a regimen? am i doing right, what should i add, change?
thanks so much.

thank you. i read about them and none of the symptoms seem to fit her case. why do you suggest them?
she is eating 4 times a day plus snacks and walking very slowly 50-100 yards 3 times a day and pooing good and peeing a river. yesterday she perked up and barked pretty good at a guy on a bicycle. today she drank water (as opposed to eating ice chips) for the first time in 5 days. only a little at the end got up her nose, and she sneezed but breathed properly, if shallowly and a bit fast. i have been putting pure shea butter on her nose and it is better. it was crumbly and starting to pit. she even lets me do it now. her abdomen is less distended today. even the neighbors noticed. she has been awake all day for the last 3 days -except for normal doggy nap in the afternoon.
so all in all she definitely feels better. i just hope she is better! the breathing still bothers me. it is worse at night. she takes her last dose of cannabis around 1am. i wonder if it would help her breathing late night if her last dose was at 9pm for instance? but then i'd have to get up at 5am for the next. and i've got that remedy scheduled to fit with her food schedule. so...
i will keep up with the nat.sul6x for that 3 4x daily and everything else as in original post. i am being more careful about administering the tissue salts- 30 minutes either way nothing else- but she still must lick them off my hand.
thanks again.
