The ABC Homeopathy Forum
Long use of homeopathic remedies query
Hello,I have been taking homeopathic remedies for over five years to treat symptoms associated with: constipation, brain fog, tiredness and other related symptoms resulting from gut dysbiosis.
I have been working with a qualified homeopath who has over 25 years experience and more recently a Naturopath to treat the gut dysbiosis symptoms.
I have noted over time when I am given the correct remedy, it stops working after 4 - 6 weeks instead of a longer period of time.
In doing some research I came across the following article from a homeopath online who wrote:
“When the problem is too many homeopathic remedy energies have been given, the person will have some of the remedy energies in their field and it will be hard to perceive an accurate case. Then it is especially important to stop all remedies and let the person return to a more natural expression. If the person is very sensitive this can sometimes take from up to 6 months to a year. If they are not as sensitive they may show a more original expression of dis-ease after 2 or 3 months. Every case is different and you must use your best judgement to see what the client is reporting.”
My question is: Could it be possible, according to the article that having used homeopathic remedies for so long that my body has accumulated the previous remedies used over the years and that is why the healing only lasts 4 - 6 weeks instead of longer?
I'm interested to know whether I should follow the advice above and stop all remedies to allow my body to return to its natural expression?
Obviously I will discuss this matter with my homeopath, but for now I'm interested to learn about other expert opinions.
Many thanks.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Classical homeopaths think that homeopathy is an energy medicine like black magic.
Very few of these homeopaths write brilliant prescriptions while most of them confound and confuse patients and students.

I will recommend you to read 'How Not to do it' by M.L Tyler.
She explains why with every remedy there is a short good burst of relief and then why this slides back. In bottomline, frequent remedy change is not wise and every remedy needs to be given time to work.
If the remedy stops working after 4 to 6 weeks, then it's time to repeat the remedy or to up the potency.
Remedy initiates an action and after that the organism's vital force takes over. Some people tend to go overboard with calling energies, chakras and stuff.
On this forum itself years ago somebody asked if the remedies are filled with demons because after sprinkling of holy water, they ceased to work. This kind of bad mixing of homeopathy and belief systems will not work however right mixing of belief systems and homeopathy has given good result.
I also came across a patient who was given sulph. doses due to which his mental state changed to the point where he started to be sceptical about God, Religion and Morals and blaming God for all the suffering(Fault finding with God and Universe are sulph. symptoms). The homeopath was a staunch believer(a rather overzealous one because he/she missed the fine balance) and he/she abandoned the patient calling the patient to be self-absorbed, a vain person and a Godless person. Now apart from his ailments the patient has to come to terms with this vilification by his own homeopath to whom he has opened up because in some societies this(being a Godless person) is a serious issue and can lead to capital punishment. So this kind of blunders should be avoided.
By the way, giving time between remedies is a good strategy! That time could be between one week to six months depending upon other factors!

Thank you for your reply and insightful answer.
You say: "If the remedy stops working after 4 to 6 weeks, then it's time to repeat the remedy or to up the potency."
I am repeating the remedy and in some instances going up to the next potency, yet there comes a sticking point in the healing when the remedy no longer has the same effects it first exhibited the first time.
One of the main symptoms I experience with gut dysbiosis is constipation. If I am using Lycopodium, there comes a point where at 10M it no longer works and I must switch to another remedy (under the guidance of my homeopath of course).
So, you are saying at this point rather than switch remedies, wait a period of time before trying a new remedy?
How do you know how long to wait? What factors does one need to consider? In the event of constipation, it is a difficult case since I must keep my bowels moving daily and do not want to resort to the use of laxatives.
Many thanks for your answer once again.

As long as some degree of perceptible improvement is seen, the same remedy can be continued with. If a higher potency does not work, what are the options available? With 1M, the potencies with optimal therpeutic activity ends. So if 10M and still higher potencies do not work, either move down to last working potency(some potencies resonate well with some people) if the remedy is still indicated, or move to LM potency in water. If the case review indicates another better remedy, then switch. But before switching we need to give some time. Some past homeopaths have given three to eight months before changing remedies. While Boenninghausen in his observation found often the indicated remedy worked well after giving an intercurrent remedy. So there are more approaches. One must make use of an approach that is best in the case.
And for constipation like physical complaints, why go for 10M?, the appropriate potency would be 200.
The first good reaction need not follow with every dose or potency of the same remedy because the gap of what a remedy can do is constantly closing and only when the gap is big like in the beginning one can perceive that 'jump' so to speak. So it's(not having that first great reaction) not a reason to think that remedy may not be doing enough.
The main complaints as long as are improving, without development of new adverse symptoms and as long as there is no let down in generals, energy, mental state the remedy can be continued.
