Stool Incontinence-Cat

15 y.o. cat with IBD and past pancreatitis. He has had stool incontinence for about a year. The frequency has become daily, even in his own bed. His vet prescribed 5 mg of prednisolone daily which seemed to help with loose stools and incontinence at first. But the drug's negative effects forced us to reduce to 2.5 mg once his symptoms stabilised.

He takes a variety of homeopathic remedies as needed. Daily, after his pred, he gets 1 pill of Cortisone 30c after his pred. drug dose. If his IBD flares up, he gets what fits his symptoms (podophyllum, nat mur, iris versicolor, lycopodium, etc).

Hoping for your recommendations for a remedy(s) that may provide relief for his stool incontinence. He cries before passing it, and sometimes he has to strain; sometimes it comes out without effort at all. He rarely makes it to the litter box during the night and early morning. Daytime, he seems to have a bit more control.

By the way, I've read that back issues like arthritis can cause incontinence. (His back bones crack sometimes when I pick him up.)

Thank you in advance for any help!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I have a few questions before suggesting any remedies.

Color of the stools?

Consistency ? Is it very loose?

Smell of the stools?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Color: medium to dark brown
Consistency: Often small, soft, or semi-formed, with drops of liquid at the end of the stool. He seems to go between incontinent to slight constipation, to squirting stools loose like yogurt (especially in early morning). Sometimes he cries loudly before passing. (Clearly anxious and eager to be let outside early!)
Odor: strong!

He appears uncomfortable before passing a stool suddenly, contorts his body sometimes. And, cannot make it to the litter box. Sometimes, loud gas is passed prior to stool. Or he does make it to the box but just passes gas or nothing at all.

It's painful to watch, and is very difficult to manage/clean, as you can imagine.

Blessings to you.

For stool incontinence and IBD;

Aloe socotrina 6c twice daily until improvement.

Mercurius corrosivus 30c, twice a day for 5 days and see if there any changes.

Also, you may consider giving him/her later a bowel nosode Bacillus dysenteriae (Bach) 200c, just 1-2 dose and see if you see any changes in a few months.

I would also suggest Arnica 200c, once dose weekly to assist circulation in older cats / dogs/ also good for people.

Some changes in a cat's bones due to old age go largely undetected unless you take them to take x-ray so it is a good idea to give Calcarea fluorica 6x daily for several weeks to support the bones.

Thank you very much for your advice, Tui. I'm looking forward to trying these remedies!

Will try to report back in the next month with progress notes.

Namaste!

Hi Tui,
Sorry i cannot find your last reply on the forum. But you had asked about any current symptoms for Sabu my cat with stool incontinence. He is better now, though still needs to eat 8 times a day, but stays anorexic. Sometimes he eats the other cat's food which he has an allergy to, so I've been giving Nux vom 200c and histamine 6c for that, if that's ok.

You asked about my UTI symptoms...they are mild and the discharge is a bit better now but still with an fishy odor sometimes and yellow discharge, plus the short dizziness once in a while, and fatigue. I have no pain on urination.

The most urgent need now though is my other bengal cat "Emma." She has been diagnosed with one gallstone in her gallbladder and one in her descending duct/tub (22mm each).
The Ultrasound also shows her gallbladder has some inflammation. She has lost alot of weight since a Pancreatitis attack/infection last year, but regained it over time. Then started having gray-colored stools and fatigue and smaller appetite. She's 15 y.o. and I don't want her to have surgery to remove stones/gallbladder. So I am giving her things to hopefully dissolve the stones and help her liver: Chanca Piedra powder and Aloe vera juice as well as homeopathics-- Carduus M. 5c and Calc. carb. 1M, Nux Vom and Suphur daily. And, Nat. Sulph 6c twice a day. If you have observed gallstones actually dissolve with a different protocol, I'd be interested to learn it, please.

Thank you in advance for your kind help! Sending blessings to you.

TO TUI: addendum to my last message about Emma and her meds:

SHe's also taking Prednisolone 2 mg/day for her Irritable Bowel Disease/Triaditis (Pancreas, LIver and Intestinal disease). But she missed her dose last night and I know it's not helping her liver, so am thinking to decrease to 1 mg/day and eventually take her off it. If I do that, I can give her Milk Thistle which is supposed to rebuild the cells of the liver and is anti-inflammatory and anti-viral/immune building. Thank you again.

For Sabu, Continue with Aloe 30c and add Sulphur 30c 3 -4 times weekly.
Also, if you can get Dysentery Co. (bowel nosodes) 200c, give once weekly.

For you please take Medorrhinum 200c, once in 2 weeks for 2 months but stop anytime if you started to improve or have aggravation.

For Emma, you can continue with the remedies that you are already giving (especially Carduus mar is a good remedy for her condition).
Also you can start Lycopodium 200c one dose every other day.

Oh, thank you so much, Tui! So kind of you to help with all three cases.

Do you know if the Medorrhinum and Lycopodium are available through this website...?

Looking forward for us all being healed soon!
Many blessings to you and yours. :)

Hi Tui,
Emma, my cat, has eye discharge and irritation, and I think it's a virus or likely herpes tendency from birth). Would Lachesis be ok with her other issues...it helped when she had 9 months ago... at what potency if you agree, please?

Thank you again!
Namaste.

I would use 6c or 12c but if that doesn't help, maybe go up to 30c.

When you think about Emma's vitality; she has a chronic disease and taking a medication, and also her age - I don't think her vital force is very strong, so I would not go more than 30c.

Hope this helps you to chose the right potency.
