7 year old girl with anxiety ...

Hi

Hoping you can suggest a remedy to assist with the following

7 year 10 months girl - very active and fit but fears and anxiety getting in the way of her life

She is generally healthy - can suffer from blocked sinuses
She had asthma from age 3 to 5 - the wheeze returns if she eats something very unhealthy
Chilblains on her toes - with dry skin (goes black)

She is a kind and oversensitive child who takes on the troubles of other people

She is a competitive gymnast who is brave up to a point. She has a huge fear of moves that involve going backwards - backflip, backwalkover on the beam. Her desire to continue with gymnastics is immense she does not want to give up but she cannot continue competitively if she balks or hesitates in these moves.

MAIN SYMPTOMS

The smallest injury is a huge drama (plasters, icepacks for the smallest thing)- she may feel pain more intensely than others. She may be a hypochondriac in the making.
Fear of the dark, of being alone (day and night), of flies
Gets startled easily
Clingy - likes to be babied
Fear of something terrible happening eg a tsunami when she was walking by the coast
Frequent sad feeling (esp in the morning) "for no reason"
Huge sensitivity to noise of knives scraping on plates
Lack of focus and fidgets
Needs to be told everything 100 times eg get dressed
Likes/needs to have things explained numerous times (in school and gym)
Possibly a perfectionist
Difficulty going to sleep at night

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Has she been always fearful and anxious?

Why she has difficulty going to sleep? Because of fear? Or too excited?

Why do you need to explain everything 100 times? Because she is just not getting it? Or she is ”slow” to understand? Or she is just not listening or paying attention?

And which symptoms are the most out of proportion? I mean, what you have described here as ”symptoms” are mostly age-appropriate behaviours; such as clinging (she is only 7so it's normal but if it is too clingy like she won't let you go to take a pee without her, then it may need to consider as a symptom), fear of dark is quite common for children but what degree? And she is scared to perform a backflip? I think anyone would be scared if you have to make such a move.
And she is a perfectionist? from your perception? Or everyone who knows her tells you that your daughter is really a perfectionist. The same thing with hypochondria. Is she worrying and going crazy for everything that happens to her?

So, I'm asking how extreme are those behaviours?

No she has not always been fearful - she was a brave child jumping dangerously around and had no problem eg going to preschool for the first day, joining a new activity or going on stage. No particular event that I know of started this anxiety it just seems that as she gets older she has more sensitive she is becoming.

Difficulty going to sleep is from both excitement and fear of being alone. She uses a mediation track to wind down and fall asleep.

She is not paying attention which is why you need to repeat everything. She is often spaced out in her own world of thoughts. Her constant response is that she did not hear. (Hearing has been checked)
She is very intelligent and does very well in school.

Re being alone - she will not go anywhere in the house without someone being with her. She would never eg go upstairs to get something or to play. When she wakes up she runs straight to us her parent. She checks to make sure I am there when she goes for a pee.
I would say her fear of the dark is normal for a child her age

Yes a backflip would make any child nervous but they train for hours with their coach and are never asked to do anything that they are not ready for or that would be unsafe. The rest of her group have these skills by now and it will be devastating for her to be dropped out of her team for falling behind. There is no part of her that wants to give up and so she feels trapped in this fearful state.

By perfectionist I mean that she wants to be good at everything she does. EG She may go to pieces that a drawing she made did not come out well enough rather than start again or to just accept that it is still a good picture.

She does not worry that she will get a disease - but she reports every tiny cut or bruise like its a big thing. Her teachers have commented on this as they have to get plasters or icepacks regularly for her.
She seems to feel pain really intensely. Any small injury stops her in her tracks and she falls down crying. She looks for a bruise or a cut and is disappointed if she does not have something to show for it.

Kali carbonicum 200c as needed. You can also give Rescue remedy.
