Dog w/ Infection & Swollen Gland
I have a 10-year old dog with grade 2 mast cell cancer inside his mouth (on his upper lip).My husband and I wanted to avoid all the surgery, chemo and radiation options at first, the tumor started bothering him, so we had the tumor removed on May 4th. The surgeon took some tissue from his cheek (very close to the swollen lymph gland) and attached it to the surgical site. He recommended radiation, but instead we have been feeding home-cooked meals with herbs for this past month, and he (the dog) has been doing excellent. More appetite, more energy. But the one thing worrying us is that the surgical site is infected. I can see a little redness and swelling on his outside lip where the removed tissue is at and his lymph node is swollen. Some day it seems a bit smaller though. Other than this he has no problem and we have been trying to boost his immune system.
I would like to avoid antibiotics. Is there anything I can do to help with the infection? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
