Basil is one of the herbs venerated in India. The leaves are used as tea with 1/4 tsp ground turmeric, a pinch of ground corriander seeds and honey to relieve cough symptoms. There are 3 basic types - Ram Tulsi or the green basil, Shyam Tulsi or the red one and Vana tulsi. It is also used as a seasoning in pasta and other dishes.
