Hi Murthy
I have about 10 MMs and read about the remedy 'under consideration' in all of them.
I don't have Vithoulkas though-I read his 'Science of homeopathy' and didn't agree with some of his ideas-so I do not consider actually getting his other books. I know you like him (everybody here knows -you always talk about him) - I'm not saying he is a worthless piece of homeopath-probably a good one-I just prefer to learn from others.

Murthy,
Here is a post made by a third person on ABC ...about combinations:
Re: Homeopathy prescribed Allopathically - THIS FOR THAT From Alfalfa Q on 2005-08-21
Welldone Nisha !!!
I believe that you have touched a very very important point in a very amusing way. I am personally very confused about this practice of prescribing homeopathy allopathically.
I know some very very renowned and respected homeopaths who prescribe like this and still people flock to their clinics like bees on honey...they must be getting some results???
Also the combination remedies confuse me a lot....some homeopaths say that they can CURE, some say they can only suppress the symptoms temporarily, and some say 'dont even touch combinations' they are useless..........Some combinations are so well known for certain diseases that people swear by their efficacy eg, Gold drops (by madaus) for heart troubles and high BP, and Kalkurenal drops for kidney stones. What do you say?
I read a recent very scientifically done study done in Israel where they gave Traumeel (a combination of arnica, rhustox and about 8 other remedies by Heel pharmaceuticals...a homeopathic antiinflammatory) at accupuncture points to cows who had udder infection (mastitis) and compared them with placebos...and guess what! the cows who got Traumeel had their mastitis much reduced or fully cured!!!
those in the placebo group did not show any response.
It is only this kind of thoroughly sclentific research that can ultimately prove or disprove the utility of combinations as well as other homeo meds prescribed allopathically. What do you say?
I also read another study in which arnica failed to reduce the pain and inflammation in post op patients.
ARE YOU ALSO AGAINST GIVING ARNICA FOR ACUTE INJURIES???
I am very glad that you started this topic. We should not taunt each other . rather we should try to teach and learn in a healthy spirit. Keep it up Nisha.
Good Luck and DO KEEP POSTING.
i would also encourage other experienced homeopaths to write on this very important topic.

Research...is what I have been asking for in all the debates....and there is research to prove that combinations are effective.
Are you also so naive to think that the Combiantion making Companies (Reckeweg....as example)...do not have qualified homeopathic doctors to guide them ????
Your problem is a 'closed mind' and a 'wide open mouth'.
And you speak from bookish knowledge....and little or no experience. Try to impress people by cutting and pasting from books.... and want to lecture to people. (Arrogance !!).
Stupidly...you trample on posts of experienced Doctors like Dr.Deoshlok Sharma...instead of learning from them.
You ridicule him by saying he has low english skills....can't you see he has great homeopathic skills and experience!!!
It will take a closed mind like yours ....another lifetime..... to get to his level.
That is why this debate continues. If you had an open mind ...this debate would have ended a long time back.

RECKEWEG
In 1790, Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician, discovered homeopathy by translating a materia medica. He observed that the substance China (Peruvian bark), containing quinine, administered in high dosage to a healthy individual, provoked an intermittent fever, and that this same remedy, taken in infinitesimal dosages, cured this symptom in an individual inflicted with this same type of fever. He demonstrated this principle on himself and his colleagues, and repeated experiments with other substances. The results were always very conclusive.
In 1796, he published his theories and experiments based on the 'vital force', the capacity of the individual's reaction in response to illness, as well as the law of similars.
Towards the end of the 19th century, Dr. Heinrich Reckeweg founded the Laboratorium Eupha where he developed and used the first homeopathic medications formulated according to Hahnemann's similarity principle.
In 1947, his sons K. Günther and Alfred Reckeweg founded Dr. Reckeweg & Co. Since that time, they have accommodated to the needs of the population. Based on the homeopathic principal of proving a remedy in healthy people,------- Dr. Reckeweg Homeopathic Specialties*------ were developed from therapeutic practice. They are produced from raw materials of the highest quality and are strictly manufactured in accordance with the German Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia.

Dr. Reckeweg has 89 well known homeopathic combinations ...which they call as 'Homeopathic Specialities'. The same are numbered R1 to R89.
These are sold worldwide.
Dr. Reckeweg's credentials in Canada (reproduced from their site) :
Bio Lonreco Inc was founded in 1987 by Mr. Pierre Longpré. We were at the time distributing vitamins and supplements when the distribution of the Dr. Reckeweg homeopathic specialties began. The increased demand rapidly 'forced' us to concentrate our efforts on the Dr. Reckeweg remedies.
The homeopathic industry in Canada is healthy. The Canadian homeopathic market has been increasing since the day the company was founded. More and more consumers are turning towards homeopathy for a very wide range of conditions. Homeopathy is being practiced mostly by homeopaths, naturopaths, chiropractors and pharmacists. The remedies are also available in pharmacies, apothecaries and health food stores.
To further develop the general practice of homeopathy and to make sure all practitioners have the latest information on the Dr. Reckeweg remedies, Bio Lonreco Inc. conducts seminars, sends professional literature and educational videos.
There are 20 employees currently working for Bio Lonreco Inc. Two of them are trained homeopaths both members of the 'Syndicat Professionnel des Homéopathe du Québec' to ensure the proper homeopathic expertise. The staff of Bio Lonreco Inc., from operations to the sales department, is always working towards giving the best to our customers.
In the field of regulatory affairs, Bio Lonreco Inc. is an active member of the Canadian Homeopathic Pharmaceutical Association (CHPA). A representative of the company sits on the board of directors and is part of the technical committee. The objectives of the association are the following: to promote high standards of manufacture of homeopathic medicines; to advance the academic and scientific aspects of homeopathic medicines and in doing so, contribute to the acceptance of homeopathic medicines as a link into the healthcare delivery system of Canada; to cooperate with scientific, health services, and other organizations having objectives similar to those of the association; to promote the activities of the association by individual involvement and the interest of members; and, to represent the members' interests at the federal and provincial levels in relation to the legislation affecting homeopathic medicines.

Please be cautioned that combination medicines of this sort may supress your disease, and you may move over to the third layer, which includes psoriasis, bony tumors, osteoarthritis and many other such diseases.
You may feel you got cured of the problem, but, you will land into more serious problems.
For details read the thread 'theory of suppression'.

These are the scares created by Classical Homeopaths to remain in business.
Does Murthy think that the two qualified Homeopaths (members of 'Syndicat Professionnel des Homéopathe du Québec' )working for Dr. Reckeweg's company in Canada are not aware of these theories.

Hi guys
Dr.Vithoulkus,Dr.Luc,Dr.Vijayakar too are qualified world renowned doctors.
Doctors around the world literally flock to their seminars and lectures.
Did you ever hear the names of those two doctors belonging to Reckeweg?
Whom will you trust?
Whose teachings seem logical to you?
Once they are employed by the company what else will they suggest?

Hi guys
If the combos do work as suggested, thousands are available for every conceivable condition.
Then why do people prescribe homeopathic medicines at all?
They can simply say,you take R 25 or R 32, depending on the disease?
why do the prescribers on this forum too rarely suggest the combos?
Is it not double talk?

Excerpts from D.r.Luc's article 'Pseudo homeopathy'
**************
But polypharmacy (giving many prescriptions at once) is harmful in homeopathy as well as in allopathy. Remember that the remedies bear a powerful force.
Each remedy delivers an energetic punch to the Vital Force, and it is the secondary response of the Vital Force which acts against the illness and heals the patient. Giving too many remedies at once can leave the Vital Force punched down like a boxer staggering to his knees.
The well-chosen remedy, the simillimum, delivers an energetic impact which exactly matches the symptom picture of the patient. Any other remedy will not be a perfect match, that is, it will have symptoms in its symptom picture which do not match the patients. These aspects of the remedy can stimulate the Vital Force to create new symptoms, called accessory symptoms of the remedy. It is only logical that if more than one remedy is given at once or in close succession, only one can be the simillimum and the others are likely to create accessory symptoms.
For example, I have seen a mixture labeled Grief which has every grief remedy under the sun, from Pulsatilla to Nat mur. There is no way that one patient can need both these remedies; they cannot be both the weepy, needy, consolation-seeking Pulsatilla and the stiff-upper-lip, leave-me-alone Nat mur.
The result of these mixtures can be a tangled mess of symptoms which make it impossible for the homeopath to follow the case. I have seen these patients too. It is bad enough that we have to sort out the patients true symptoms from those induced by their allopathic medications. We should not have to sort out symptoms induced by our own colleagues! Speaking of difficulties following the case, mixtures and alternation of remedies bring about another problem which we see in allopathic medicine all the time. I have seen allopathic physicians give my patients several drugs, one of which might cure the case but all of which have serious side effects.
The mixture achieves the desired effect (suppressing the symptoms, which they call a cure). Then the physician does not know which medication worked and which ones can be discontinued. As a result the patient is kept on the dangerous drug cocktail indefinitely, with drug interactions compounding the side effects of the single drugs. When remedies are mixed the same problems arise. If the patient aggravates it is difficult to tell which remedy caused the problem; if the patient is improving slightly, which remedy should be re-administered in a higher potency?
And just as in allopathic medicine, the interactions among the remedies can bring about harmful effects which the single remedies would not create. This can even happen when the remedies are alternated. Each remedy has a long duration of action, usually lasting weeks or months. Giving several remedies within a single week creates all the bad results of mixing remedies because their effects will overlap.
To make the problems arising from mixtures more clear, consider remedies made from chemical compounds containing more than one element, like our old friend Nat mur. If it were possible to remove the Natrum (sodium) element from the muriaticum (chloride), the proving results of each one separately would be entirely different from the combination. It stands to reason that adding further elements would change the proving picture again.
Another justification for mixing remedies stems from a confusion over existing remedies like China sulphuricum or Calcarea silicata which seem to be mixtures. But these remedies were proven as such. Their indications are not invented by adding the symptom picture of China with that of Sulphur, or that of Calcarea with that of Silica. Provings were done on the compound itself so that it can be prescribed confidently according to Hahnemanns principles. This type of proved compound in no way justifies creating new, unknown and unproven mixtures.

While this debate was raging in full fury, I made a direct reference to Reckeweg UK for a clarification.
Following is the reply received by me from their Managing Director:
Quote
Dear Mr. Varma
The question of Classical as opposed to Combination Homoeopathy always provokes a debate. In the modern world there are still Practitioner's who practice classical homoeopathy only and if this is what they wish to do then we respect their feelings. Our R-Specialities have evolved after decades of hardwork and their efficacy and efficiency is beyond doubt. The fact that the products are sold to over 40 countries worldwide speaks for itself and is testimonial that the products do not cause suppression of symptoms.
What people have to understand is that Science is a continuous process of 'learning' and Practitioner's must continuously upgrade themselves with the latest knowledge and findings.
In India alone, every 10 seconds, someone buys a Reckeweg medicine and the Reckeweg company as a whole are very proud of this achievement.
In the end, it is the patient's health that is the problem and it should not matter to a Practitioner whether he cures them by classical or complex homoeopathy, herbs or food supplements.

If there were adverse effects of their medicines , by this time there would have been many legal suits against them.

Fine, let those who want to use 10 medicines at a time use them.
Once again, there is a difference between cure and removal of symptoms. As long as people are aware of this and not sanguine about disappearance of symptoms, let them make their choices.
Pankaj, if there is no proof that combinations harm -especially chronics - where is the evidence that they cure?
I myself know homeopaths who give combinations to patients for acute emergencies (much like the 'Traumeel' mentioned). Acute prescriptions and chronic prescriptions are vastly different things. And always remember, if you care to take the time, you can find THE single remedy or its sequel, if necessary. I don't mean sit and repertorise if someone is having a heart attack - but then, a good homeopath who knows his - or her - remedies - will have the possiblities at his / her fingertips. The PQRS and other symptoms will lead to selection. When you give in to laziness and make general prescriptions, you are not using homeopathy as it should be used and to the greatest effect. You are 'evolving' all right - in the wrong direction.
