Cystic acne.
Hi. really hope someone can help me. Doctor says i have cystic ance and wants to put me on accutane. I wanna try other routes first if at all possible. I often get large spots(cysts?) on my cheeks that seem to remain under the surface. Sometimes cause extreme swelling(have one of those ones at the mo:( ) Really getting me down. I can see a few more under the skin on my other cheek but aren't that big at the moment. I have some of these for nearly a year. Never go away. Ideas? Graphites?Luthorcorp on 2005-06-23
This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I had cystic acne as a teenager (I'm 26 now). I have managed it with diet for 3 years now. I have found that if I eat little to no meat (only once in maybe 3 months) my acne goes down considerably.
I cannot say this is a cure, it was only my solution. Try varying your diet, going vegetarian for a while to see if it helps, or avoiding fatty cholesterol-laden foods, and make sure you're getting enough vitamin C and E.
I do still get acne, but not nearly as bad as it was, so it's not perfect.
Good luck! Cystic acne can be soooo painful, I hope you find a solution very soon!

Thanks for replying. I am 23 years old. I have always had some acne but it seems to have become more cystic over the years. To be honest, it isn't that painful. It just crushes my confidence. Its interesting that you mention diet. I typically eat a fair amount of protein. I lift weights and so eat a bodybuilders type diet consisting of lean proteins with most meals, vegetables, fruits, sweet potatoe etc. I actually started reducing my protein yesterday thinking it may help, so its funny that you should mention it.
Hope you're right.
thanks

You're welcome Luthocorp. :-)
Here's a tip: There's a grain called "quinoa" that has complete proteins and is very low in fat, no cholesterol or saturated fats at all, whilst being high in fibre. It's been a very welcome addition to my diet. Hopefully you can find it where you live.
Good luck!

Any hair follicle can be blocked by testesterone and it leads to acne. Sometimes it could get secondarily infected by bacteria leading to pus and blood in the acne. This tends to spread along the skin layer producing a cyst like acne red and bluish with pain and itching in some people.
Homeopathic Medicine has good remedies like Hepar sulf, Mercurius, Silicea, Psorinum, Echinacea which can help in clearing the acne and over a period of time prevent the recurrence too.
Trying to identify any food which may aggravate the incidence and avoiding the same for a few days definetely helps.

Dr.V
Would you recommend any of those remedies in particular or would they all be taken at the same time?
I have heard of echinacea but that is it. Homeopathic medicie is a new ball game to me.
thanks

Hello Luthorcorp,
Give the following symptoms:
Do you have any itching in those?
Any pain?
Any bleeding on scratching?
Any pus in those acne?
Any burning pain?
Better by warmth of cold?
Related to menses?
How about your appetite, thirst, urination, bowel movement, perspiration, sleep etc.?
Do you tend to develop abscesses or boils anywhere in the body?
The above will help me in suggesting a remedy for you.

Hi Dr. V.
No. No itching
No pain unless i accidentally bang them or something.
No bleeding or scratching
There is pus in the acne
No burning pain
Not sure about the warm/cold question...I dont think there's any real difference.
I dont know what menses menses means :( Im a guy though (just in case its got something to do with menstruation)
Ive not had any on my body for years. Just my face. Mainly on my cheeks.
Appetite, thirst and urination are normal i believe. Bowel movements 1-2 per day. Dont tend to sweat too much. Bed at midnightish, awake at 8.30 am.
I hope those were the kind of answers you were looking for.
thanks

Hi-
My friend had this as she got to be in her late 20's.
She recently told me that a new doctor told her to stay away from dairy. She had to make herself stop drinking milk and she hasn't had any more problems.
Hope this can be of some help.

Hi Luthorcorp,
You can take CARBO ANIMALIS 30 six pills three times a day for seven days and also start CALENDULA 1x ten drops in a cup of water, morning and bedtime which you can continue for 15 days.
I am sure these would be of help to you.

I developed cystic acne when I was 15 years old (I am now 38). I saw numerous doctors, dermatologists, and tried many different treatments before I was directed to an allergist who determined that I was allergic to dairy products, especially skim milk. I have since abstained completely from products containing skim milk and my occurences of cystic acne have stopped. I wish somebody had told me sooner!

I am a 24 year old woman who just started to notice the terrible cystic acne that has been coming once in a while on my cheeks and forehead. I started a food diary about a week ago and discovered that milk is the main culprit of my break outs. So I am going to give up dairy and add daily, rigorous exercise (for the toxin purging effects of sweat!) to my life and see if these horrendous bumps go away for good. Also, I am going to aim for 8-10 8 oz. glasses of water per day. I believe if I stick to this, I can have clear skin, including less scars from previous breakouts, in about 6-9 months. I will keep everyone posted.

I am 32 and everytime I have a stressful situation I get these deep painful cysts on my temples and sporadically on my forehead. So, I have tried lots of different things. I have read that your face's pH is actually acidic, and through my research I have decided upon Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar. Now, I don't know if you can just buy any old apple cider vinegar, but, I believe if it is important to you you will buy the best!
I put my first application on last night and immediately all of the acne started to get whiteheads. I extracted them and put another application on. So, today I am sitting here with a paper towel soaked in apple cider vinegar and writing this. I think I have found the best method. I will post again when I know for sure, but, I have no new acne. I wish I could control the source, though...the stress. When I get stressed I can actually feel the acne pulsing...it is painful and I always feel it is getting worse by getting stressed. Good luck!
