Cough 4 year old

Son is suffering from mild cough since last more than 3 weeks. No other issue. He generally coughs when he wakes up in morning. He coughs like 10-12 times then he is fine for almost whole day. Sometimes it seems dry and sometimes it seems there is something in throat which irritates him.
Sometimes he coughs in night too while sleeping but is fine after drinking water.

Pls suggest medicine

Son is 4 year old and is very active child. Has above normal range height and have 16.4kg weight.
He has issue since birth that it seems his nose is always congested. Also every 2-3 months he captures cold.
Feeds good but vomits when on eating.

Had suffered Pneumonia at 5 months of age.

I was expecting a long dose may be for 1 month or 2 .
Will 3 days dose increase the immunity ?
