Sciatica

I am posting this for 2 reasons.
1 - because I have some questions on follow up and
2 - to give encouragement.

My husband has been suffering with sciatica of his left side for about 5 months. He cannot take ibuprofen or muscle relaxants because he has just had a kidney removed. They might have helped if started early but this has gradually gone from annoying to bad to agonizing. At times he has been almost unable to move.
We tried acupuncture which gave relief but didn't last long enough and is too expensive to repeat twice a week. We then tried a chiropractor - same result, also deep tissue massage - same result. Alongside this I had given him consecutively colocynthis which had no effect at all, Nux vomica helped a little (he used to be a typical Nux personality but has relaxed more with age), Rhus Tox helped a little. I ordered some Gnaphalium which arrived yesterday. I gave him one dry dose - 4 pellets and half an hour later the pain had gone. He felt wonderful. It has lasted about 12 hours before he could feel a slight achiness beginning so he was going to take another dose.

Now for the questions.....No coffee?(he only has a couple of cups a week). How long do you have to stop the coffee for? Just when taking a dose? Days / weeks afterwards?
Also if it seems not to be working so well after a while where do I go then? Higher dose? Something that follows up well?

I am so happy that he has at last got some relief, I just want to keep it working.
