Severe asthma and Dog allergy-HELP
I am 30 years old and have had asthma almost all of my life. I did well with it and took meds, but about 10 years ago I developed a severe allergy to dogs...I don't get hives or sneeze or get red eyes, I wheeze and can't breathe almost instantly. I dealt with it for years and although my son was heartbroken, never got a dog....until now....I went on vacation and stayed with a friend who had a small Min Pin and I did ok, so I got him a one pound chihauhau and she has been in the house for only 3 days and my chest is soooo tight. I'm not sure if it is the cold weather or her and she is such a help to my Dad and son that I have to figure out a way to desensitize. Can someone please help me....conventional prescription meds aren't helping and I have to do something soon or I'll have to get rid of her and that would devestate my son and Dad.....phrn255 on 2008-12-14

Hi,
Can you please describe your general behaviour, fears , anxieities and your general temperament. e.g. How sympathetic are you ? How affectionate are you ? What makes you angry ?
Also list any major events in life which had a lasting impact on you especially any negative ones.
What other sensations , and odd symptoms do you have (anywhere on the body) ?
Talk about your weather/temperature preferences.
Talk about your food cravings and aversions.

Hi Sameer,
In general, I am pretty calm...I am a flight nurse on a helicopter and a emergency department nurse at a children's hospital. My family and my son are my life and I love to help people. I get frustrated easily with my breathing and allergies because I feel like I can't participate in things that go on with my family (most have dogs). I get nervous when I do new things, but in general can get myself into a mind set that I can do it and it's ok...
Most of the time in the cold winter months in the U.S., the weather fluctuates and I get tightness in the chest and feel like it won't expand...I get a little runny nose and wheeze...mostly controlable all of these years with inhaled steriods and albuterol. The worst problem is the dog...I almost instantly become short of breath and my chest gets so tight that my medicines and inhalers don't work sometimes. I started taking vitamins and such that act as antihistamines, but I still feel really tight after being near the puppy for about a half hour.
I do much better in the summer months and warm weather and at times go days and weeks without needing prescription medicine, but moving away from my family just won't cut it for me.
Don't really notice any food cravings really...
Please help,
Nic
